At the end of a passage you want to secure your entries, share them with the crew or prepare them for the archive. NauticCalc exports the passage as a readable PDF report or as CSV/JSON for further processing — and everything stays on the device. This guide walks through review, format, privacy and sharing.
Prerequisites
- An active passage with entries in NauticCalc
- Enough storage on the iPhone
- Clarity about who receives the export (crew, owner, archive)
Step 1: Review the log
Open the Logbook and check events, positions and times before exporting. Add any missing entries now — nothing can be fixed later in the PDF.
Step 2: Pick the format
- PDF: a readable passage report for the crew briefing or archive
- CSV/JSON: for further processing in spreadsheets or your own analyses
Choose the format by purpose — a report to show is a different thing from raw data to compute with.
Step 3: Privacy
The data stays on the device only. Before sharing you can mask crew names if the report leaves the boat. That keeps the privacy of your crewmates protected.
Step 4: Share
Export via the iOS Share sheet — AirDrop, Files app or email. No NauticCalc server sits in between; you decide what leaves the device.
Common mistakes
- Creating the export before the review and missing entries
- Choosing the wrong format (PDF instead of raw data or vice versa)
- Sharing crew names unintentionally
- Storage full — the export aborts
