Prerequisites

  • Known steering course and speed through water — or target COG with current
  • Current from atlas, tidal stream or experience

Step 1: What is given?

Often you know compass/steering course and STW (kn) and want COG with current. Or you plan COG and need steering course.

Step 2: Triangle in NauticCalc

Open Current correction. Enter set (direction current flows to) and drift (speed).

Step 3: Sanity check

Stronger beam current → larger offset. Recompute after current changes.

Step 4: Full course chain

For the full flow see Course correction.
